glen Lake Fire Department

Firefighters normally wear over 40 lbs. of protective clothing as they work to extinguish a fire. With this gear they must climb ladders, pull hoses and be prepared to rescue persons from burning buildings. These tasks are physically exhausting. Professional firefighting requires high demands of physical and mental performance. Ongoing training is essential for effective recognition, tactics and performance. GLFD firefighters are cross trained and licensed EMS providers. Each fulltime firefighter is required to complete 240+ hours of annual training.

EMS

Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians respond to approximately 400 calls for aid each year.  These professionals respond to medical emergencies and provide the highest level of pre-hospital care available. All EMS personnel are licensed by the State of Michigan. State approved continuing EMS education is mandated for all licensed medical personnel in conjunction with "Medial Control Authority" and department mandated education.

However, we know there are times when minor non-urgent situations arise. Glen Lake Fire Department offers complimentary blood pressure and blood glucose checks. We also provide in-station injury assessments and treatments for a variety of minor medical issues such as cuts, abrasions, burns, insect bites etc.. Unfortunately we cannot dispense medications such as aspirin/tylenol, antihistamines and other typical over-the-counter medications.
